This design is inspired by the state of Sabah, one of the 13 member states of Malaysia. It is home to an estimated 42 ethnic groups with 3 of the largest indigenous groups being Kadazan-Dusun, Bajau and Murut.

Sabah is nicknamed Land Below The Wind as the state lies below the typhoon belt of East Asia, and is resembled by the raging waves as depicted in this design. 

Sabah is a well-known nature paradise and is specifically renowned as it is where Mount Kinabalu or Akinabalu is situated. With a height of 4,095 meters, it is considered the highest mountain in South East Asia and has been a go-to hiking destination among tourists all around the world.
