The ‘Kelebit’ is an ancient wooden shield used by the Orang Ulu warriors  of Borneo back in the headhunting era. The Orang Ulu tribe can be found in Borneo, the world’s third largest island and is divided among East Malaysia and Indonesia. This tribe represents a rich history dating back to hundreds of centuries and consists of other sub-tribes, namely Kenyah, Kayan, Kelabit, Lun Bawang, Penan etc.

Made by the indigenous community of Borneo, this pareo is a celebration of the Orang Ulu history and culture. It is the embodiment of elegance and femininity of the Orang Ulu women.

Tradition meets trendy with this design, the Kelebit motif is revived for current times.

Mac Borneo Collections is founded by Munica Liwan. Born and raised in the village of Long Seridan, Baram, she comes from the Kelabit tribe, a small community of only 6,600 populations  that can be found in Borneo.

Munica had always been passionate about sharing the rich culture and history of her tribe to the world. In 2008, she created a social enterprise called Borneo Street Kuala Lumpur (BSKL) with her husband, John Laurence, which acts as a one - stop center for all traders from Sabah and Sarawak to sell their local and homemade Borneo products, ranging from handicrafts to local cuisines, in the Peninsular of Malaysia.
